Violence at a pizza buffet

Well I did a bad, bad, thing. Well it wasn’t really that bad. The bad part is I ate too much. I didn’t stop my self when I was full, but kept going until I was stuffed. That’s the bad part.

Hubby and I went out last night, something we don’t get to do very often. We just went out for pizza, a pizza buffet. Now buffets are a big no-no for  people  because they make over eating way too easy. Well I’m not special. I ate way too much. I ate mine and my neighbors fair share of pizza last night. I put plenty of red pepper flakes on each “slice” that I ate. Wanted all the heat I could handle.

Now this buffet was a little different, you didn’t even have to go up and fight people at the “bar” to get the good stuff. Why do those extra little steps between bites, they bring hot pies around calling out the names and you just make eye contact and they will give you as many slices as you want. They will even make you a whole pie just for your table. They had a little chart on the table listing what each standard pizza had on it, and if the one that they were passing around was a little different they would say so.

They had lots of desert pizzas as well, hubby had those. I tried all the meat pizzas they passed around. I tried a Bacon chicken ranch, was pretty good. Instead of sauce they used ranch dressing, word of caution, ranch dressing stays hotter longer than pizza sauce!

With all the processed meat, cheese, and I don’t even want to think about the salt, the scale is up 2 pounds this morning. Belly was protesting all the food last night. I’m a bloated mess this morning! My nose is even swollen! So water will be my best friend today. I went over on my carbs yesterday. I have not idea how much, but I would think no more than 40.

I did leave a plate of crusts on the table.

Pizza skinning, a violent act of a low carb life style!

Walking…week one

Well I just started walking this past week. I decided to get my butt moving to help tone up these legs of mine. I discovered that there is a walking track 2 blocks away from my house. So I have been going over, sometimes by car, other times by walking, and making laps. Now I haven’t seen any drops on the scale, but I have had some sore legs. So I know that I am building some muscle. I also know how out of shape I am.

So this is what I did.

3/17   3.48 miles

3/18   3.48 miles

3/19   2.61 miles

3/20 day of rest

3/21   6.5 miles     got a walking buddy she walked a lot further than I thought she would so I walked twice today

3/22  1.72 miles

3/23   3.48 miles   buddy walk

3/24   3.48 miles

So as long as my math is correct that is a total of 24.75 miles my first week. I don’t know if I can keep my numbers that high every week, but I am going to try to walk for three days and take one day off for rest. I just hope the weather works with my schedule.

My Coffee and a question

I love my coffee. I drink it every morning and sometimes at night. I probably drink too much. Well maybe too much for some people. I start each day with one 12 cup pot. I warms me up and gets me going. Fills the house with a lovely smell and my body with a much-needed jolt. I enjoy coffee that can stand up by itself without the aid of a cup. We have two coffee makers in the house because the rest of the family likes their hot water with just a hint of coffee flavor.  If we only had one pot I would have to share and the thought of waiting for my next cup….THE HORROR!!!!!!

Now I don’t drink it fast, I take my time and savor each cup. I make my coffee experience last about 3 hours on a good day. Watch a little TV, surf the net, and watch the neighborhood out my window. When a busy day comes along I do take 2 sometimes 3 to-go cups with me in the car so I don’t miss out.

I drink it black. Nice and rich. Coffee of choice is Folgers Classic, but I think I need and darker roast. I’m starting to get grounds in the pot because of too much coffee in the filter basket.

So a question for all the coffee connoisseurs out there….

What is your favorite coffee brand and roast?

I’m not a snob when it comes to coffee. I am willing to try any brand that is available in my area. I would love to find a wonderful brew that doesn’t break the bank. I would love to drink Sumatra coffee all the time but wow the price would have my hubby yelling at me!

week 3……I think it’s working

Well I think it’s working. I just completed week three. I have noticed that my “flags” on my upper arms are firmer. The skin on my thighs are tighter. My weight hasn’t changed much so I thinking it must be the dry brushing.
I will be investing in a natural bristle brush next month. I think it’s worth it. I would recommend this to anyone who has a problem with dry skin. It has really helped me. If I continue to see skin firming along with the reduction of dryness than that is a double win!

Faygo Cupcakes

My daughter found this recipe on the net some where…she really likes the soda Faygo…and she knows I like to bake  so she sent this to me to try.

1 1/2 c self rising flour

1 1/4 c all-purpose flour

2 sticks butter

2 c sugar

4 lg eggs room temp

1/2 c milk whole (i used 2%)

1/2 20 oz bottle of Faygo soda I used grape  says grape red or orange works best

1 small pk of jello in the same flavor

1 tsp vanilla

Heat oven 350* line 24 cupcake with liners.

In a small bowel combine flours and set aside. In a large bowel cream butter with an electric mixer until smooth. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs on at a time, beating well. Add the dry ingredients in three parts alternating with the milk and vanilla and soda. With each addition beat until incorporated but do not overbeat. Using rubber spatula to scrape down sides of the bowel. Spoon into cupcake liners, filling about 3/4 full and bake for 20 mins or until done.

Now I got 24 cupcake liners full and have some left over, so I got 36 out of mine.

Total bake time in my oven was 20 mins.

They turned out so light and springy! My taste-testers said they were awesome! I took a dozen with me to a family get together last night and they were hit hard! Everyone really enjoyed them. When they found out they were grape they gave a sceptical look, but after the first bite, just looks of joy.

Going to try a peach and orange flavor combo next time. A play on a fuzzy navel. Maybe with a cream cheese based frosting with a little peach schnaps and orange peel mixed in.

NOT LOW CARB FRIENDLY!!!!! 8)

My 2nd Birthday….

I was thinking about how my low carb way of eating is not a diet but a lifestyle. Something that I will do for the rest of my life. We call it a way of eating, WOE, and not a “diet” because it is not something that is done in the short-term for quick results.

This is a change of life. A new start in the way you look at food and how it fuels your body. Weight loss maybe the first goal but as I discovered all the benefits to this WOE it became a smaller part. (but not by much 😉 )

I am healthier now than I have ever been. My body loves the fuel that I give it. I don’t have bad reactions from what I put in the tank. No more high blood pressure, diabetes is under control without the use of medication, no heartburn, and cholesterol levels are back to normal. If this was viewed as a “diet” as soon as I started eating what some experts call “a balanced diet” all of my body’s reactions would come right back. Would I really what to do that?? That answer is a BIG NO!

I view this as a forever thing. No going back for me. The last time I had a “cheat food”, something that was full of sugar, my body threw a temper tantrum. Rapid heart-beat, sweating, and the worst tummy ache ever. Then the guilt set in. “Why did I do that to myself?” For some strange reason I thought I “deserved” the treat. Ha! I deserved what I got for treating my body that way. Never Again!

So I’m in this for life and with this realization I think a celebration is in order. So I took the time and went though all my notes and found the exact date.

August 21 2009      This is my official second Birthday!

I am going to celebrate this day as the day I began my new life!

And yes I do expect my family to give me gifts like any other birthday!

Dry brushing….Week Two

Well week two is done. I am not seeing any results as far as skin tighting but the texture of my skin is still improving. Smoother and less dry. Only having to use the lotion once or twice a week on my legs and only once a day on my hands. That is a big improvement from 5 or 6 times a day for my hands and twice a day for my legs! I have also noticed that the dreaded back itch, the one you can never seem to scratch, has gone bye-bye!
I really enjoy the feeling of the brushing before my shower. Seems to wake my skin up. Any help getting me going is a blessing!

Bring on flip-flop weather! My feet are ready!
